Deputy Manager - Children's Residential Home
Brook Street Social Care - Blaenau Gwent
Salary: Up to £41,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time, rota-based (including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties)
Location: Blaenau Gwent
Contract: Permanent
About the Role
Brook Street Social Care is recruiting an experienced and committed Deputy Manager to join a well-established children's residential home in Blaenau Gwent. You will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the highest standards of care are delivered in line with trauma-informed principles.
This is a key leadership role where you will help create a nurturing, safe, and empowering environment for children and young people with complex needs, including Autism and Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).
Key Responsibilities
- Support and guide care staff through supervision, mentoring, and performance management
- Organise and manage staff rotas in line with operational needs
- Ensure staff understand daily routines, policies, and Children's Home Regulations (RISCA)
- Oversee care and placement plans, ensuring timely reviews and updates
- Lead or participate in meetings, reviews, and multi-agency discussions
- Promote a culture of openness, fairness, and safeguarding
- Assist with financial administration and budget management
- Monitor training compliance and staff development
- Deputise for the Registered Manager and Team Leaders when required
- Maintain accurate records and ensure regulatory compliance
- Support young people's development across education, hobbies, health, and emotional wellbeing
- Contribute to recruitment and HR processes
- Participate in the on-call rota
Essential Requirements
- QCF Level 4 or 5 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People)
- Full UK Driving Licence (manual)
- Minimum 2 years' management experience in a residential children's home
- Experience supporting young people with Autism, EBD, and mental health needs
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, RISCA, and key working
- Registered with Social Care Wales and on the DBS Update Service
- IT literate (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel)
