Job Description

Nursery Chef / Cook
Location: Hackney E9
Salary: £25,300.60 per annum
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM) Monday to Friday

About the Role:
Our client, a well-established nursery in Hackney, is looking for an experienced Nursery Cook to join their team. The nursery provides full-day and sessional care for children aged 6 months to 5 years and operates 51 weeks a year. The cook will be responsible for preparing healthy, nutritious meals and snacks for up to 100 children daily, ensuring high standards of hygiene and food preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals and snacks according to prescribed menus, catering to children's dietary needs.
  • Order, collect, and record food supplies from central stores.
  • Safely use kitchen appliances, including cookers, deep-fat fryers, mixers, and kettles.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene by thoroughly cleaning equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Assist in achieving and maintaining high health, safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Flexibly support other areas of the nursery if needed.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in meal preparation in a nursery or childcare setting.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety for Catering is essential.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery or similar is preferred.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prepare meals for large groups of children.
  • Team-oriented, with excellent communication skills to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

About the Nursery:
Our client offers a nurturing environment that complies with OFSTED standards, focusing on learning through play and promoting healthy eating. The nursery operates Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and is dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and enriching experience for children.
