Job Description

Job Title: Senior Care Assistant

Location: Pontypool

Salary: £13.64 per hour (permanent role, working 35.25 hours per week across a mixture of days and nights)

Contract Type: Permanent Full-time

We're looking for a compassionate and proactive Senior Care Assistant to support our team and help shape a warm, nurturing environment for our residents.

About the Role: As a Senior Care Assistant, you'll work closely with the Management Team to deliver high standards of physical, emotional, and social care tailored to individual needs. You'll act as a role model for junior staff, lead by example on shift, contribute to care planning, and help promote independence and dignity in a safe and stimulating environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support residents with daily personal care and emotional wellbeing
  • Lead shifts confidently, offering supervision and guidance to the care team
  • Review and contribute to individual care plans
  • Complete and implement risk assessments accurately
  • Administer and manage medications (as authorised)
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, nutrition, and safeguarding
  • Accurately document observations, updates, and progress

What We're Looking For:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (required)
  • NVQ Level 3 or willingness to complete it (desirable)
  • Experience in a care setting, ideally with older adults
  • Proven ability in writing care plans and conducting risk assessments
  • Confidence in leading a shift and supporting colleagues
  • Strong communication, organisation, and team skills
  • Medication trained and competent in safe administration
  • Manual Handling and First Aid training
  • Practical knowledge of medication processes and relevant health and safety legislation
  • Compassion, patience, and a practical mindset
  • A commitment to upholding dignity, choice, and respect
